Sugar itself doesn't necessarily cause anxiety and stress. After eating sugar, you may experience a short burst of energy, but then your blood sugar levels drop. Your sugar intake can be linked to various bodily sensations. It’s the glucose, and the insulin which is then released in the body to counter the glucose which can cause sensations of:
- Trouble thinking
- Blurry vision
- General unwell feeling
When your blood sugar reaches a level which is too low, known as hypoglycaemia, you may experience symptoms of anxiety. When sugar levels swing from high to low, adrenaline and cortisol, are released, which can also cause anxiety and panic.
